Thanks for making our weeks stay so enjoyable in a very relaxing atmosphere. Despite the weather being a bit chilly and the waves being useless for surfing, it was a great time. Our thanks also to the catering people down there for the fantastic breakfasts and the occasional meal. The recommendation from Lee for our anniversary meal was one of the most pleasant evenings out we have had.

Hope to see you again and thanks once more

Hi All

Just got back from a week at John Fowler's (yeah - I know..!)
We ate at yours twice last week and we'd like to say it was really good. (The scampi brought her back for more, the gammon left me with no reason to disagree!)
Excellent, thanks.
All the best and we'll see you again.

Hi all,

Just a quick note to say a BIG 'thank you' for your hospitality. We stayed (room 9) between Sunday and Tuesday and were very sad to leave.

The excellent food and friendliness of everyone there were the highlights of our stay. The weather was the only dampener - but even you can't control that!!

Once again, thanks for a very enjoyable stay. We hope to see you again soon.

Regards,
Andy & Maya
Thanks for returning my card and also for the good food and excellent beer.

The Bay View Inn makes all the difference to Widemouth Bay.

Regards,
Tym

Hi Dave.

As we had such a good stay I thought I had better say a BIG THANK YOU...

No honestly I have to say I wish it was me where you are and not having the next 9 years to look forward to (NOT).....             (Work orientated comment!!. Ed)

I was going to say good bye this morning but I didn't think you would have liked the early call any way Joan sorted us out..

We will try a return visit next year if you will have us... I will book up a bit earlier next time though.

All the very Best to you and the Team

Thanks again...                                                                          Regard  Andy and Co....

Dear all,

Just a quick e mail to thank you all for such a pleasant stay in Cornwall.

It was our first visit to your part of the country and we couldn't have picked a nicer place to stay.  It was great that you made the dog so welcome too.

Hope to see you all again soon - a week was not long enough!!

Love -  Michele Hughes & Andy & a very excitable Travis.
Just a little note to say how much we enjoyed our stay with you on the weekend of the 14th 15th of this month.  my partner, mum and I found that the stay was very relaxed and friendly and with everything we needed either in the pub or a short drive away. I would also like to take this chance to thank the chef, cook or bottle washer (or what ever you call him ) who was working on the night of the 14th for sorting dinner out for my partner and I after 9pm. great stay we will see you agian

Midland Good Beer Guide Report

This review relates to the pub side of the business (Jan writes articles for the Midlands Good Pub Guide) (Ed)

Hi
As promised, my review for the Bay View for the Midland Pub & Beer Guide. I don't know if they'll print it in full as you're a bit out of the area, but they generally manage to find space for my ramblings, him indoors & I travel the Midlands doing reviews of real ale pubs. (It's a tough job...)

Still looking for a nice frog for your collection.
cheers!
Jan Hurst
(This review was live on the site for 2 months Ed)

Been a bit quiet since July as Iıve been on holiday. First a week in St Davidıs Pembrokeshire, where they donıt drink real ale as far as I can tell. Thereıs pub called the Farmerıs Arms in Goat Street that sells Guinness & Worthington Creamflow. Tried the Worthington draught bitter but never managed more than a pint. Food & ambience were great but I found myself yearning for a pint (or two...) of Bathams Best Bitter.

Followed this with a week with Su, her 9 year old daughter Rosie & friend Gemma in Bude, Cornwall where they very definitely do drink beer. Lots of good stuff all over but mostly overpriced food pubs, some downright unfriendly unless you were ordering the lobster...

We found a gem though - The Bay View Inn in Widemouth Bay (pronounced widmuth) near Bude. They sell local ales by Skinners & Sharps, all wonderful. Add to this stunning
views of the bay & lots of cheerful banter & what more could an ale drinker ask?

I settled on a aromatic session ale sold as Skinners Kitchıs Klassic (3.4 ABV), this is really Skinners Coastliner but the Pub landlord dry hops it on the premises producing a truly quaffable ale that I could (& did) drink all day.

The pub consists of two room, a family room with tables & boxed games to keep the little uns happy and bar that is split into three distinct areas for playing games, (pool, darts, shove ha'penny) eating & drinking.  The bar is liberally decorated with beermats and other paraphernalia from the many guest ales served over the years. Outside is a large children's playground that kept our girls happy for hours.

The food was plain & wholesome & plenty of it, staff willing to share single portions for the girls who never finish anything.  They're vegetarian & very fussy, so itıs never easy, but the staff were very friendly & helpful. Having been told the pub was only five minutes from the campsite (I think our informant assumed we were going by car, everyone goes drinking by car in Cornwall - most alarming) we arrived after 'eating time' on our first night but sandwiches were rustled up to keep starvation at bay & with beer that good who needs gourmet nosh?

The pub is also a B&B  that welcomes families & dogs & has an informative website at www.bayviewinn.co.uk. Do drop by if you're in the area, you wont regret it.

In response to my reply she writes:-

Hi Dave

thanks for the mail - we all loved the Bay View Inn  & will be back.

We're looking for a closer campsite.  Budemeadows was great for the kids but my idea of camping is a large empty field with a  couple of loos, a shower & no neighbours! We'd love to stay B&B but as Su's a single mum and my partner Gavin is building up his business we don't have cash for luxury holidays, even just £18 a night for the four of us camping was a struggle. Got back to Brum broke & in debt.

The address of the website is http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/. I looked it up this morning & the editor,  Keiron had not put the article in yet. But it's his busy season out visiting pubs all day everyday (and he calls it work!).
I expect when the weather deteriorates & keeps him indoors he'll get round to  publishing all the guest reviews.

Still frog hunting - there are a lot of very naff frogs around.

Jan

Hi Dave
thought you'd like to see I managed to sneak in another review for you on the Midlands Pub & beer Guide
http://www.midlandspubs.co.uk/desertisland/janhurst.htm
see you next summer
Jan

In Jan's review (which at the time of writing this) is still active, she puts my brew, Kitch's Klassic, at number 3 in her listings!! Can't be bad for a small Cornish Pub!! Ed.

Give us a try, we think you'll come back again !
